The Coronation of His Majesty The King

As we come to an end of a tremendous weekend of celebrating the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III this weekend, not only was this an important, national, and historic event for the Country, we thought it was a good opportunity to highlight and celebrate the work of the Eden Project which throughout the month of June, will be celebrating ‘The Month of Community’.

Inspired by His Majesty the Kings’ commitment to the environment, the Department for Education is working in partnership with the Eden Project, to mark the special celebration event.

The Month of Community is a time to come together to celebrate everything that makes our communities great. A whopping 20 million people took part in June 2022, to cheer volunteers, connect with their neighbours, welcome refugees, support carers, raise awareness of loneliness, or simply say thank you.

June kicks off a whole host of events near you where you can celebrate everything that makes your community great. The Month of Community is an opportunity to bring our neighbourhoods closer, give back, and shine a light on the amazing communities we live in.

There will be plenty of community events and celebrations across the UK, and opportunities to support a variety of charities and causes. You can find out more info here.

The Coronation Big Lunch (6 – 8 May)

As events go, they don’t come much bigger than the crowning of a new monarch!

We’re excited to be joining in the official celebrations this weekend and holding or joining a Coronation Big Lunch is a perfect way to celebrate.

The Big Lunch brings neighbours and communities together to share friendship, food and fun.

This year you can be part of history and join millions across the UK, and further afield, with a Coronation Big Lunch on 6-8 May, or join the fun in June and plan your Big Lunch as part of the Month of Community.

Have a Grow Day (3 – 4 June)

Have you planted your seeds yet, or is this another year where you think you’ve left it too late?!

It’s true that it’s not exactly felt warm enough to want to get outside (much), but you’ll be pleased to know, there is still time!

Social Farms & Gardens is a UK-wide charity supporting communities to farm, garden and grow together and ‘Have a Grow Day’ is the national celebration of all things community growing.

If you have a green space in your community and you’re keen to get involved or you have a space you want to share, this is a great opportunity to shout about what you do, and to bring new faces along to get involved and have a grow!

Neighbourhood Watch Week (3- 9 June)

Neighbourhood Watch Week is a time of celebration and connection. We celebrate our togetherness and how for over 40 years, we have been making better places to live – together.

The Month of Community is when we come together to celebrate everything that makes our communities great. It’s an opportunity to bring our neighbourhoods closer, give back, and shine a light on our amazing communities.

June will see a month of community events and celebrations across the UK, as we get together to share friendships, have fun and support various charities and causes.

The charity becomes more visible by being more active and vocal within your community. More importantly, active groups are more effective at preventing crime, reducing loneliness and isolation, and building a more resilient community. Being more active also means you can hear additional concerns within your community, and group members can support each other more.

Planting Wild Flower Seeds

The Education Hub will be sending thousands of packets of wildflower seeds to primary schools across the country, which gives schools the opportunity to mark this historic moment while helping children to learn more about the importance of biodiversity.

Working With the Eden Project’s National Wildflower Centre, the initiative will distribute over 200,000 seed packets to schools all over the country in the coming weeks.

The packets of seeds include native annual wildflower species, like cornflower, corn poppy, and corn chamomile, and if planted together, around 40 rugby pitch-sized wildflowers meadows would be created.

Planting the seeds will be an opportunity for children to engage with the natural world and learn more about the importance of biodiversity, as well as being a way for them to celebrate a historic national moment.
