Summer is here and it’s going to get hot this week here in England!

Whether your child is at Active Camps, at home or on holiday, here’s 8 tips to keep children safe in the sun

It is recommended to keep in the shade between 11am and 3pm as this is when the sun is at its strongest. Avoid being out in the sun for too long.
Make sure you keep topping up the sun cream throughout the day. Cover all exposed skin with sun cream and use one that has a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or above (UVB protection) and with a high star rating with at least 4 stars (UVA protection). UVA protection can also be indicated by the letters ‘UVA’ in a circle which means that it meets the EU standard.
Cover your child up in loose cotton clothes, such as an oversized t-shirt with sleeves.
Don’t forget a hat to protect their heads and sunglasses to protect their eyes.
If your child is swimming, use a waterproof sunscreen of factor 30 or above. Reapply after towelling.
Make sure they have a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated. Keep encouraging them to have a drink through out the day. Keeping ice lollies at home is also a fun and refreshing way to stay hydrated.
Encourage your child to have some quiet time inside throughout the day, especially if they have been running around in the heat.
If your child is attending Active Camps please remember to bring sunscreen, a hat and a reusable water bottle

Whatever your age, the best way to enjoy the sun safely and protect your skin from sunburn is to use a combination of shade, clothing and sun cream
