How many of us make resolutions every year with good intentions, only to fail within the first few weeks? Maybe this is because we try to succeed on our own without the support of those around us. It’s much easier to stick to new habits when we do so as a family!

Here are our top five suggestions for family new year resolutions to stick to this year:

Family Night

Having a weekly film or game night is a simple but great way to spend quality time together. Setting a night aside each week for this tradition will help deepen bonds and give everyone something to look forward to.

Keeping Healthy

Keeping healthy is important to instil in our children healthy eating and exercise habits that they can take with them into adulthood. You can cook together as a family and try new foods together. The BBC Good Food website has plenty of healthy recipes which will entice little ones to have a go.

Exercise doesn’t have to be boring. How about family walks? Or even a dance-off in the living room?

House Work

House chores shouldn’t be left to one person. Why not share the responsibility? Let everyone have a room to look after, for the children it could be their bedrooms or helping in the kitchen with the washing up. Working together is fun and will give children life skills they can use for the rest of their lives.

Gratitude

Gratitude doesn’t just feel good, focusing on what’s good in our lives can also be beneficial for us mentally. Have a moment each day where everyone expresses three things which they are thankful for. It is definitely a mood booster!

Bucket List

It’s very easy to fall into the same weekly routine of places you go to or things that you do together as a family. A great way to spice things up is to create a bucket list for the year of lots of different fun things you want to do as a family and then write them down on the calendar!

We hope this gives you some inspiration for new ideas for 2019!
